(Remember) when Allāh will say (on the Day of Resurrection). 'O 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Remember My Favour to you and to your mother when I supported you with RūhulQudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)] so that you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and when I taught you writing, AlHikmah (the power of understanding), the Taurāt (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel); and when you made out of the clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by My Permission, and you breathed into it, and it became a bird by My Permission, and you healed those born blind, and the lepers by My Permission, and when you brought forth the dead by My Permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from you (when they resolved to kill you) since you came unto them with clear proofs, and the disbelievers among them said: 'This is nothing but evident » magic.' '
And even if We had sent down unto you (O Muhammad ) a Message written on paper so that they could touch it with their hands, the disbelievers would have said: 'This is nothing but obvious » magic!'
And of them there are some who listen to you; but We have set veils on their hearts, so they understand it not, and deafness in their ears; if they see every one of the Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) they will not believe therein; to the point that when they come to you to argue with you, the disbelievers say: 'These are nothing but » tales of the men of old.'
Do they not reflect? There is no » madness in their companion (Muhammad ). He is but a plain warner.
And when Our Verses (of the Qur'ān) are recited to them, they say: 'We have heard this (the Qur'ān); if we wish we can say the like of this. This is nothing but the » tales of the » ancients.'
Or do they say: 'He (Muhammad ) has » forged it?' Say: 'Bring then a Sūrah (chapter) like unto it, and call upon whomsoever you can, besides Allāh, if you are truthful!'
So when came to them the truth from Us, they said: 'This is indeed clear » magic.'
And He it is Who has created the heavens and the earth in six Days and His Throne was on the water, that He might try you, which of you is the best in deeds. But if you were to say to them: 'You shall indeed be raised up after death,' those who disbelieve would be sure to say, 'This is nothing but obvious » magic. '
Or they say, 'He (Prophet Muhammad ) » forged it (the Qur'an).' Say: 'Bring you then ten » forged Sūrah (chapters) like unto it, and call whomsoever you can, other than Allāh (to your help), if you speak the truth!'
Or they (the pagans of Makkah) say: 'He (Muhammad ) has » fabricated it (the Qur'ān).' Say: 'If I have » fabricated it, upon me be my crimes, but I am innocent of (all) those crimes which you commit.'
They said: 'Mixed up false dreams and we are not skilled in the interpretation of dreams.'
Indeed in their stories, there is a lesson for men of understanding. It (the Qur'an) is not a » forged statement but a confirmation of the Allāh's existing Books [the Taurāt (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel) and other Scriptures of Allāh] and a detailed explanation of everything and a guide and a Mercy for the people who believe.
And they say: 'O you (Muhammad ) to whom the Dhikr (the Qur'ān) has been sent down! Verily, you are a» mad man.
And when it is said to them: 'What is it that your Lord has sent down (unto Muhammad )?' They say: 'Tales of the men of old!'
With their hearts occupied (with evil things) those who do wrong, conceal their private counsels, (saying): 'Is this (Muhammad ) more than a human being like you? Will you submit to » magic while you see it?'
Nay, they say:'These (revelations of the Qur'ān which are inspired to Muhammad ) are » mixed up false dreams! Nay, he has » invented it! Nay, he is a » poet! Let him then bring us an Ayāh (sign as a proof) like the ones (Prophets) that were sent before (with signs)!'
He (Muhammad ) said:'My Lord! Judge You in truth! Our Lord is the Most Beneficent, Whose Help is to be sought against that which you attribute (unto Allāh that He has offspring, and unto Muhammad that he is a sorcerer, and unto the Qur'ān that it is » poetry, etc.)!'
'He is only a man in whom is » madness, so wait for him a while.'
'He is only a man who has » invented a lie against Allāh, but we are not going to believe in him.'
Or say they: 'There is » madness in him?' Nay, but he brought them the truth [i.e. '(A) Tauhīd: Worshipping Allāh Alone in all aspects (B) The Qur'ān (C) The religion of Islām,'] but most of them (the disbelievers) are averse to the truth.
'Verily, this we have been promised, we and our fathers before (us)! This is only the » tales of the » ancients!'
Those who disbelieve say: 'This (the Qur'ān) is nothing but a lie that he (Muhammad ) has » invented, and others have helped him at it, so that they have produced an unjust wrong (thing) and a lie.'
And they say: 'Tales of the » ancients, which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon.'
Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: 'Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a » madman!'
[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: 'You have believed in him before I give you leave. Surely, he indeed is your chief, who has taught you » magic! So verily, you shall come to know. Verily, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all.'
'This is no other than the false-» tales and religion of the » ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabarī, Vol.19, Page 97]
As for the » poets, the erring follow them,
But when Our Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) came to them, clear to see, they said: 'This is a manifest » magic.'
'Indeed we were promised this, we and our forefathers before, Verily, these are nothing but » tales of » ancients.'
Then when Mūsa (Moses) came to them with Our Clear Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they said: 'This is nothing but » invented » magic. Never did we hear of this among our fathers of old.'
But when the truth (i.e. Muhammad with his Message) has come to them from Us, they say: 'Why is he not given the like of what was given to Mūsa (Moses)? Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Mūsa (Moses) of old? They say: 'Two kinds of » magic [the Taurāt (Torah) and the Qur'ān] each helping the other!' And they say: 'Verily! In both we are disbelievers.'
Or say they: 'He (Muhammad ) has » fabricated it?' Nay, it is the truth from your Lord, that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you (O Muhammad ), in order that they may be guided.
Has he (Muhammad ) » invented a lie against Allāh, or is there a » madness in him? Nay, but those who disbelieve in the Hereafter are (themselves) in a torment, and in far error.
And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, they say: 'This (Muhammad ) is naught but a man who wishes to hinder you from that which your fathers used to worship.' And they say: 'This is nothing but an » invented lie.' And those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has come to them (i.e. Prophet Muhammad when Allāh sent him as a Messenger with proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, etc.): 'This is nothing but evident » magic!'
Say (to them O Muhammad ): 'I exhort you on one (thing) only: that you stand up for Allāh's sake in pairs and singly, and reflect (within yourselves the life history of the Prophet ): there is no » madness in your companion (Muhammad ), he is only a warner to you in face of a severe torment.'
And We have not taught him (Muhammad ) » poetry, nor is it meet for him. This is only a Reminder and a plain Qur'ān.
And they say: 'This is nothing but evident » magic!
And (they) said: 'Are we going to abandon our āliha (gods) for the sake of a» mad » poet?
And when the truth (this Qur'ān) came to them, they (the disbelievers in this Qur'ān) said: 'This is » magic, and we disbelieve therein.'
Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad ) and said: 'One (Muhammad ) taught (by a human being), a » madman!'
And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, the disbelievers say of the truth (this Qur'ān), when it reaches them: 'This is plain » magic!'
Or say they: 'He (Muhammad ) has » fabricated it.' Say: 'If I have » fabricated it, still you have no power to support me against Allāh. He knows best of what you say among yourselves concerning it (i.e. this Qur'ān)! Sufficient is He for a witness between me and you! And He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.'
And those who disbelieve (strong and wealthy) say of those who believe (weak and poor): 'Had it (Islāmic Monotheism to which Muhammad is inviting mankind) been a good thing, they (weak and poor) would not have preceded us thereto!' And when they have not let themselves be guided by it (this Qur'ān), they say: 'This is an » ancient lie!'
But he who says to his parents: 'Fie upon you both! Do you hold out the promise to me that I shall be raised up (again) when generations before me have passed away (without rising)?' While they (father and mother) invoke Allāh for help (and rebuke their son): 'Woe to you! Believe! Verily, the Promise of Allāh is true.' But he says: 'This is nothing but the » tales of the » ancient.'
But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] turned away (from Belief in might) along with his hosts, and said: 'A sorcerer, or a » madman.'
Likewise, no Messenger came to those before them, but they said: 'A sorcerer or a » madman!'
Is this » magic, or do you not see?
Therefore, remind and preach (mankind, O Muhammad of Islāmic Monotheism). By the Grace of Allāh, you are neither a soothsayer, nor a » madman.
Or do they say: '(Muhammad is) a » poet! We await for him some calamity by time.!'
Or do they say: 'He (Muhammad ) has » forged it (this Qur'ān)?' Nay! They believe not!

The people of Nūh (Noah) denied (their Messenger) before them, they rejected Our slave, and said: 'A » madman!' and he was insolently rebuked and threatened.
For they said: 'A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or » madness!'
And (remember) when 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: 'O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allāh unto you confirming the Taurāt [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed . But when he (Ahmed i.e. Muhammad ) came to them with clear proofs, they said: 'This is plain » magic.'
You (O Muhammad ) are not, by the Grace of your Lord, a » madman.
Which of you is afflicted with » madness.
When Our Verses (of the Qur'ān) are recited to him, he says: 'Tales of the men of old!'
And verily, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes through hatredness when they hear the Reminder (the Qur'ān), and they say: 'Verily, he (Muhammad ) is a » madman!'
It is not the word of a » poet, little is that you believe!
And if he (Muhammad ) had » forged a false saying concerning Us (Allāh),
Then he said: 'This is nothing but » magic from that of old;
And (O people) your companion (Muhammad ()) is not a » madman;
When Our Verses (of the Qur'ān) are recited to him he says: 'Tales of the » ancients!'
